Top tips for marketing your brand-new website
No matter what type of business you own, marketing your website is one of the most important business strategies you can employ – but it can be challenging if you don’t know what you’re doing.
Every minute, around 380 new websites are created worldwide, and with every one of those websites vying for a top ranking on Google search, knowing how to promote your website effectively is more essential than ever.
If you’ve just had a website built for you and aren’t sure what to do next, we’ve got your back. In this blog, we’re going to share a few effective ways to promote your website, and help you get the best out of your number one sales tool.
Like everything with business, it’s all about how much work you’re prepared to put in. They key is to have a few effective tools that, once set up, do most of the work for you.
Why doesn’t my website appear on Google?
This is one of the most common questions we get from our clients once their site goes live.
We understand that one of your goals is to grab a top spot on the search rankings. So, when it’s not immediately showing up with a top ranking on Google search, it can be frustrating.
However, there’s no need to panic. Your site isn’t showing up in Google searches because it hasn’t been indexed yet.
Site indexation – what is it and why is it important to me?
When you search for something on the internet, Google doesn’t search all websites in real time, instead it draws information from a database which is a bit like a massive library catalogue. Site indexation is the process search engines use to catalogue all the information from your site onto this database, making it available to relevant searches. This video gives a great visual demonstration on how it all works….
How does Google index my site and how long does it take?
Google uses web bots or ‘spiders’ to crawl through your site, scanning the information to understand what your website is all about. When someone enters a key phrase or word (for something they’re looking for), the search algorithm is directed to relevant websites and pages in their database.
If your website is new or if you have added new pages, it won’t immediately appear on Google because it hasn’t yet been indexed (or added to the database) by the spiders.
The good news is that Google will eventually get to your website. The slightly frustrating news is that it can take up to 2-3 months for the spiders to crawl the pages on your site and up to 3 years for your site to appear on the top ranked pages.
Again, don’t panic – there are other ways to get Google’s attention
